"You have been summoned to appear before the Court of Love.
Your presence is not merely requested — it is ordered.
State your name. Choose your side. Loneliness doesn't stand a chance.
Zimbali Gardens, Greendale · 17 October 2026"
The First Party, Munya, is a distinguished practitioner of Family Law whose career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to binding human connections — which, in retrospect, was excellent foreshadowing. His colleagues describe him as formidably capable in the courtroom and formidably funny everywhere else. The Second Party, Ruponeso, known in relevant circles as Popo, is a commanding Labour Lawyer with a reputation that precedes her into every room she enters. Close associates have described her variously as "not to be trifled with", "three steps ahead", and "the one you want in your corner." The court concurs.
Exhibit A The parties first encountered each other in circumstances that the court can only describe as beverage-assisted destiny. Munya was at the time consuming a flat white — black, bold, no nonsense, much like the man himself. Ruponeso arrived with a strawberry milkshake — vibrant, unapologetically sweet, and entirely commanding of the room. The combination of these two drinks has since been entered into evidence as Exhibit A and is considered legally binding proof that the universe had already filed its own motion before either party knew what was happening.
No injunction was filed to prevent subsequent feelings from developing. The court notes this was a wise decision.
Exhibit B The promise of marriage was made at Mara Mara restaurant, a venue hereby designated by this court as an Official Landmark of Matrimonial History. The precise words spoken are sealed under Order of the Court, but the method deserves to be on the record: Munya, with considerable ingenuity, arranged for a cat — a live, cooperative feline — to serve as a distraction while he slipped the ring into Ruponeso's jacket. When the question came, the ring was already there. Loneliness was served its eviction notice effective immediately. The cat has not commented.
Exhibit E Witness testimony regarding Munya's character has been, by any reasonable legal standard, overwhelming in volume. The word "joker" appears in 94% of submissions. His sense of humour has been variously described as "relentless", "dad-tier but somehow still landing", "the reason we were late to three events", and — from one anonymous witness — "genuinely funny, which we did not see coming." The court has noted this with affection and mild exasperation. Munya has been informed that the wedding ceremony is not a comedy set. He has not yet confirmed he understands this.
Exhibit D Ruponeso — Popo to those who have earned the privilege — has been the subject of considerable witness testimony, almost all of which contains the phrase "you don't want to be on her bad side" delivered with complete sincerity and obvious admiration. She is described as sharp, commanding, and possessed of an instinct for reading rooms that her legal opponents have found deeply inconvenient. Her friends call her Popo. Loneliness called her bluff. Loneliness lost.
⚠ Exhibit M This court hereby issues, with full legal force, the following ruling: Munya is banned from wearing any hat of a funny, novelty, comedic, or otherwise undignified nature at this wedding, the reception, the after-party, or any satellite event connected to these proceedings. This includes, but is not limited to: oversized top hats, novelty crowns, comedy cowboy hats, inflatable headwear, and hats with messages on them. The court has seen the evidence. The court has made its decision. There will be no appeal. Munya's barrister has been informed. His barrister was also laughing, but agreed.
"Having considered all submitted evidence — the flat white, the strawberry milkshake, the dinner at Mara Mara, the jokes (all of them), and the particular energy Popo brings to every room she enters — this court finds unanimously in favour of love. The case against Loneliness is closed. The motion for matrimony is hereby GRANTED. Let the record show: they were absolutely, completely, legally made for each other."
